In recent years we’ve heard from some well-known personalities discussing the troubles they have had with the symptoms of menopause, which might include:
- Hot flushes
- Mood swings
- Brain fog
- Night sweats
- Vaginal dryness
- Reduced libido
- Weight gain
- Memory problems
- Finding it difficult to concentrate
Many women don’t realize that what they are experiencing are in fact symptoms of menopause, for example feeling as if they are suffering from dementia due to their brain fog.
These symptoms can affect both home and working life, and many women find it difficult to talk about. I have also found treating women that is only when they mention how they are feeling to friends that they realise they are not alone. It is important that employers are supportive of women and equally important to talk about how we are feeling.
Acupuncture has been practiced for thousands of years and aims to restore balance to hormones and help to relieve the symptoms of menopause. It is a safe, natural, alternative for menopausal symptoms: here’s a study reporting that Acupuncture offers a realistic alternative to hormonal treatment for menopausal symptoms for women who cannot or do not wish to take HRT Hormone Replacement Therapy.
A course of acupuncture treatment involves taking medical history and working with symptoms. Every woman will have their own symptoms and experience of menopause, so treatments are tailor made to help each woman to feel their very best.
Alongside the treatment dietary and lifestyle advice will be given which can make an important contribution.
